Water Softener Repair in Southwest Missouri

Most Softener Problems Need a Repair, Not a Replacement

When soft water stops showing up, the cause is often a stuck valve, a clogged injector, a brine draw that isn't pulling, or a setting that drifted — all fixable, and all cheaper than a new system. The tricky part is that a softener can fail without ever looking broken. It can run its cycle, sound completely normal, and still send hard water down the line. So we diagnose before we quote, and you'll know what the repair costs before we start. If your unit is far enough along that a repair won't hold, we'll tell you that too.

Know the Warning Signs

Check Your Water, Then Check the Tank

You’ll usually notice it in the water first: scale creeping back onto showerheads and faucets, spots on the glassware, soap that won’t lather, laundry that feels stiff, dry skin after a shower. The telling part is when that happens while the softener is still running its cycles — regenerating on schedule but not actually softening anything.

Then go look at the unit itself. Most people don’t — it sits in a basement or garage corner and gets ignored between salt refills. But the water only tells you something’s wrong. The unit tells you what’s wrong:

  • Salt hasn’t dropped in weeks, or a hard crust has bridged across the tank — brine isn’t being drawn
  • Standing water in the brine tank — same problem, different symptom
  • Grinding or clicking during regeneration — usually the valve
  • Gritty beads in your faucet aerators — resin escaping the tank
  • Pressure down throughout the house — often a fouled resin bed
  • Water on the floor — worth a look before it finds drywall

Any one of these is worth a call. Most are repairs.

Our Client Questions

"While other home repair companies fade away, we’re still here taking care of generations of customers just like you.”

The most common cause is a salt bridge: a hard crust forms across the tank and the salt above it never reaches the water below, so no brine gets made and nothing gets softened — even though the tank still looks full. You can break a bridge up yourself with a broom handle, gently. If the salt still isn’t moving after that, the problem is usually further in: a clogged injector, a blocked brine line, or a brine valve that isn’t drawing. Those need a technician. As a benchmark, most homes go through salt every six to eight weeks. If yours hasn’t dropped in months, something’s wrong regardless of how the water looks.

Roughly weekly is typical for most homes, and a properly sized unit should land somewhere around every five to seven days. Modern metered valves regenerate based on how much water you’ve actually used, not on a fixed schedule, so the gap moves with your household. What matters is the change: regenerating far more often than it used to usually means the resin has lost capacity, and not regenerating at all points to the valve or the control head. Either is worth a call.

Age decides most of it. Under about ten years, problems are usually mechanical — valves, injectors, brine draw, settings — and those are repairs. Past ten to fifteen, the resin itself is wearing out, and no amount of valve work fixes a spent resin bed. The rule of thumb: once a repair costs more than half of a new system, replacement is the better spend. We’ll tell you which side of that line you’re on before you commit to anything.

Yes. Our labor is covered by us, and any part we install carries its own manufacturer warranty — those are separate, and they don’t run the same length. Part coverage also varies by component: a control valve and a rubber seal aren’t warranted the same way. In practice, that means that if the same failure comes back within the labor window, we come back, and it doesn’t cost you again. The specific terms go on your written estimate before you approve it, not after the work is done.

Call us. A real person answers our phone at night, on weekends, and on holidays — not a machine. Hard water for a day isn’t an emergency the way a burst pipe is, so we’ll usually book you into the next available slot rather than send someone out at midnight. But you’ll get an actual answer about when, from an actual person, instead of waiting until Monday to find out.

The time required for repair depends on the specific issue with your water softener. Most minor repairs can be completed within an hour, while more complex problems may require additional time. Our technicians will provide an estimated timeline after diagnosing the issue.
